Gyros catering
We prepare some of the best Gyros catering in Copenhagen. We have our own rotisserie, where the delicious Greek gyro meat is prepared. Here the gyro meat is cooked for a long time and is therefore completely tender inside. Our chefs can also come to your event, whether it is a confirmation, wedding, birthday, company party, Christmas lunch etc. and make Greek gyros there. This way you are free to cook the food yourself and can focus on your event. Here you get “Pitogyro”, which is Gyros in Greek pita bread, but can of course also be made as gyros catering in the form of a buffet.
The solution with “pitogiro” is more fine and delicate, as our chef makes it based on his many years of experience and in this way you are free to make it yourself. You can read more about it here and otherwise we of course also have our other catering menus, which are also made as a Greek buffet.
Greek gyros made at your place
We can also make gyros at your place. Here, 2 of our chefs come to you, with their grill and equipment, and make completely fresh gyros on the grill, after which they roll the gyros so that they are ready to eat for you. As a rule, there are 2 gyros (Pita gyros) for each. Our chefs are out at your place for approx. 4 hours where they make sure that you are spoiled with an authentic Greek “Gyro experience” just like in Greece, only even better.
The gyro meat is primarily pork, but by agreement, Gyros can also be made with other meats, such as lamb or chicken. There is also the possibility of making souvlaki (Grill skewers) and is a really good combination for Gyros and can also be used as a filling/meat for the pita.
Gyros with homemade Greek pita bread
As one of the few in Copenhagen, if not the only ones, we make our Gyros with homemade Greek pita bread. That is, our pita bread is 100% homemade, which makes our “pitogyro” more juicy and delicate. When we deliver the gyros menu, we usually cut them into triangles, so you can take the meat yourself and add it or just eat the flatbread next to the gyro meat. We can of course deliver the flatbread in whole pieces by arrangement.
Authentic gyros recipes
We make our gyros according to authentic gyro recipes just like in Greece. However, our chef has different recipes, including a gyro recipe for chicken and another recipe for lamb. There are many ways to make gyros, but we stick to the original gyro recipes, which is why we have a lot of repeat customers.
The best thing about gyro recipes is how versatile they are. You can easily replace the pork with chicken, beef or plant-based alternatives like tofu or mushrooms if you are making it yourself. Whether you are a traditionalist or a vegetarian, homemade gyros give you the opportunity to take a bite of Greece – right from your own kitchen.
The history of Greek gyros
Gyros is a Greek dish made from meat cooked on a vertical rotisserie. Originally it was made from lamb, but in Greece it is usually made from pork or chicken.
The word gyro or gyros, (γύρος in Greek), existed before 1970 and ended up replacing döner kebab for the Greek version of the dish. The word Gyros means “round” or “To turn around”, which symbolizes the rotisserie that is used to turn the Gyros around while it is being fried. Gyros has become enormously popular both in Greece and outside of Greece. There is what is called a “Gyradiko” which is a shop that usually only sells Gyros and souvlaki. You can of course also get it in restaurants, but when people are in the mood for Gyros, they usually go to a real “Gyradiko” or a “Foodtruck”, where you can sometimes also hear Greek music while enjoying your Gyros. Drinks that are typically drunk with it are a cold Greek beer, typically Mythos, Fix or Alfa.
