Greek music from all over Greece
Be entertained by the musicians from Zorbas, who play Greek music from all over Greece, including songs by the famous composer Mikis Theodorakis to the more charming island songs, as well as oriental melodies from Asia Minor, Crete, and from ancient Greece.
Our musician can also play mixed music from all over the world, including Sinitra, Kim Larsen, Elvis Presley, etc. This way it will be cheaper and you do not have to book 2 orchestras to cover the needs for the party.
The musicians’ goal is always to satisfy the audience who loves live Greek music and who usually know the popular melodies that they can hum along to. In order for everything to go together into a higher unity, we recommend that Greek buffet and Greek dancing are selected for your event, as it gives the whole thing a greater lift and a wonderful atmosphere.
Music for all kinds of events
Our musician has more than 20 years of experience in Greek music and is often out with our dancers to entertain at all kinds of events, including TV, festivals, Christmas parties, birthdays, weddings and other private parties.
If you are going to have a big party, our musician has both speakers, PA systems and microphones so that everyone can hear the music. Our musician plays Greek instruments such as bouzouki (which is the Greek national instrument) violin, guitar, bass, drums and “tsouras” which is a mini version of the bouzouki. We have several different musicians, and therefore it must be agreed in detail about which musician is wanted and who is available.
You can choose to book live music in a package offer, here the musicians play 1 extra hour completely free of charge (2 hours in total). This way it is obvious to use the musicians both before and after the Greek food. See prices and details on package offer 2 where you get a dance performance at half price and Greek music for 2 hours. There is also the option to choose the entire package with a Greek buffet, Greek music and performance/teaching.
The history of Greek music
Greek folk music consists of several different regional styles. Depending on where you are in Greece, they have their own music, which is often also sung in their own dialect. There are e.g. Epirotika, Thrakiotika, music from the various islands, Asia Minor, Pontos etc.
A distinction is made between three areas: the mainland, the islands and Asia Minor. In recent times, some genres have become widely known through the media, e.g. the Asia Minor-inspired rebetika and dances such as kalamatianos and tsamikos.
The Greek instruments
There are many Greek instruments, but the ones that
people are most familiar with are
the instrument Bouzouki with 3 or 4 pairs of strings or the small “Mini-
bouzoukis” such as “Tsouras” or “Baglama”.
Normally the Bouzouki had three strings, then the bouzouki was developed with 4 strings by the greatest bouzouki player Manolis Chiotis. Manolis played mostly in the “rebetika” category.
Other instruments that are also found in Greece include Violin (mostly islands), Laut/Lute (mostly Crete), Guitar, Bagpipes, Lira etc.
Lira is most used in the Black Sea (Pontos area) and Crete. These instruments are even older than the Bouzouki and there are many versions of Lira which also go back all the way to the Byzantine Empire. Some Lira have a long neck and others are more curved.
